Schedule
Apr 16, 2010

There have been a few questions that surfaced regarding the background of the schedule removal from the common. A little over a month ago Management started pressing the OT issue very heavily. They wanted tracking of all sick leave and justification of why there was OT. They were placing this information directly on the schedule. As we all know, why a person is sick is a privacy issue, so I requested removal of sick leave from the schedule.

Management went to Legal who informed them that having the sick leave on a public document was a violation of the privacy act.  They were also told they couldn't publish vacations, other leaves of absence or the recall bill in a public forum. All of these are for official use only. Management removed access and has been working on a modified schedule to be viewed by all.

It was not my intent to cause any issues; rather I was attempting to protect the members. The action of tracking the sick leave and OT would have placed the members under scrutiny causing them to be blamed for OT that was actually caused by a staffing shortage and not by them calling in sick. Management still has the right to track OT and sick leave, but not publically.

You have the right to have a schedule and know when you are supposed to work. We will continue to work with management to insure they provide a schedule that doesn't violate privacy, but has the public information needed. Many of these have already been published.
