IAFF Local F-282 serves 130 Union Fire Fighters employed by Navy Region Northwest Fire & Emergency Services. As mandated by federal law, the Local also represents the few fire Fighters in the Department who have chosen not to join the union. All officers of the Local are elected by the Union Membership. The Members at each Fire Station elect a Chief Steward who serves on the Executive Board. The Executive Board consists of the Chief Stewards of each installation and the primary elected officers. The primary officers are the Secretary/Treasurer, Vice-President, and the President. The Executive Board is chaired and overseen by the Local's President and meets monthly. Our Mission Strength through intelligent united action is the hallmark of the trade union movement. Believing that unity is essential for mutual protection and the advancement of the interests and general welfare of the fire service employee working at Navy Region Northwest Fire & Emergency Services; we have formed Local F-282 of the International Association of Fire Fighters. The mission of this Local shall be: I. To organize all federal employees working as Fire Fighters, Fire Captains, Fire Protection Specialists, Fire Inspectors, Supervisory Fire Inspectors and Fire Department Dispatchers at the Navy Region Northwest Fire and Emergency Services: II. To promote harmonious relations between Bargaining Unit Members and their Employer, as well as promoting the establishment of just and reasonable working conditions and equitable settlement of grievances: III. To place the members of this Local on a higher plane of skill, knowledge and efficiency by encouraging the Employer to provide for attendance at schools of instruction for imparting knowledge of modern and improved methods of fire fighting and fire prevention: IV. To advocate fellowship and respect among all our Members in order to encourage participation in issues affecting this Local and the International Association of Fire Fighters.
